Turkish company developing new heavy armed drone
Turkish unmanned air systems company Baykar Makina is developing a new heavy armed drone called the Akıncı (Raider), online military news site Defence Blog said.
Turkish Defence Minister Nurettin Canıklı said that from 2027 onwards the technology developed in the manufacture of the Akıncı would allow Turkey to develop unmanned combat aircraft as well.
The Akıncı, which has two engines and over a tonne of payload, is due to be shipped from 2021, Defence Blog said.
The unmanned vehicle will have a turboprop engine and fly at over 12,000 metres, it added.
